The alligator shear utilizes a hydraulic drive system; the hydraulic system-serving as the core power source-comprises a hydraulic pump, cylinders, valve assemblies, and an oil tank, with some models offering diesel engine options for operation in areas without a power supply.

The cylinder assembly includes both main and auxiliary cylinders; these are manufactured using processes such as integral forging, heat treatment (quenching and tempering), precision machining, and internal wall grinding and roller burnishing, with piston rod surfaces finished via hard chrome plating. The valve blocks typically employ integrated designs-such as three-way cartridge valves-offering advantages like compact structure, rapid response, high contamination resistance, and ease of maintenance. The oil tank features a welded steel plate construction, undergoes pickling and anti-rust treatment prior to installation, and is equipped with an internal filtration system to ensure oil cleanliness. Seals in critical areas, such as BSF Glyd Rings, are vital to the equipment's long-term stability and the maintenance of shearing force.

The shearing mechanism consists of a moving blade and a stationary blade, with blade length and maximum shearing force customizable to user requirements. The electrical and control system utilizes standardized components and includes overload protection; the control system is integrated into a push-button station, offering multiple operating modes including manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic.
