The alligator shear-also known as an alligator-style shearing machine-is a hydraulically driven piece of metal-shearing equipment classified as industrial metal processing machinery. Primarily used in metal recycling, scrap vehicle dismantling, and smelting/foundry operations, it performs cold shearing on metal materials such as round bars, steel plates, and structural steel sections.
The machine features an upper-and-lower jaw shearing design, utilizing a hydraulic pump to drive the cylinder for cutting operations. It offers blade lengths ranging from 400 mm to 1,500 mm, shearing forces between 63 and 400 tons, and motor power ratings of 7.5 kW to 44 kW. Available in either integrated or split-body configurations, the equipment includes overload protection and supports diesel engine drive options for use in environments without an electrical power supply. Operation must adhere to safety protocols, including performing no-load test cuts to adjust blade clearance, conducting regular lubrication and maintenance, and using specialized clamps for material feeding.
